In this Root Insurance Girl review, I'm going to look at the movie and its premise – how it started, its theme and what it is trying to get across. And what better way than by looking at the characters of Root Insurance, the plot itself, the actors who play the key roles and finally, what the end result is! Let's get straight to it then…
Root Insurance Girl is directed by Ken Takahashi and stars Megumi Toyoguchi, Yu Shimabukuro, Takuya Satake and Toshihiko Ohashi. This movie tells the story of an insurance agent, Takahashi, who decides to start her own business, after his current one ends up in financial trouble. After a series of mishaps, Takahashi decides to take out a loan from the bank and buy back his insurance company.
The movie begins with Takahashi having to give a speech before a large crowd at an insurance conference, where he explains the importance of insurance to businesses, as well as the importance of keeping the environment safe. He also thanks the people for the support they have given him, as he has suffered from depression and has been down with his girlfriend, who died, many years ago. A number of attendees come to cheer him on as he gives his speech, including his new client, a girl called Li Yu.
Unfortunately for Takahashi, Li is not what he expected. He takes a liking to her straight away, but soon enough, it seems that she is a bit too easy to get along with. This doesn't last however, because when Li starts to act suspicious about some of the details of Takahashi's life, it appears as though something isn't quite right. Li wants to know why the man she has always known has suddenly become so distant, and Takahashi soon starts to realise just how much of an impact a business relationship can have on a relationship.
Then, one day, Li falls ill, and it becomes clear just how much she means to Takahashi. As Li is admitted to hospital, she reveals to him her family background. She has two older brothers who are very close to her and whom she has looked after for many years, despite the fact that she does not feel like she can look after them herself any longer. Takahashi makes her promise to look after them when she is in hospital, and when the hospital is closed, so that she is able to take care of them.
As the film moves along, it becomes clear that Li Yu's parents were once very poor but have become wealthy, thanks to the insurance industry. and have put their hard earned money back into their family enterprise by taking out a loan and paying off Takahashi's current insurance company.
